Middle School 2 will run from January 16 -April 24 (15 weeks), with an open house to prepare with technology on January 9th. It will be led by Erin Conrardy and Christi Mendoza who are each expert Middle School ModelingTM instructors. The course will focus on teacher’s further skill development in all aspects of the modeling method and improvement of their confidence with its implementation. It will focus on three fundamental models: 1) Matter – describing and classifying its structure, 2) Energy – as an agent of change in any system, 3) Matter and Energy Interactions which unify all science content areas. Participants will reflect on the modeling cycle and develop familiarity with the materials necessary for full classroom implementation. Teachers will work through activities, discussions and worksheets, alternating between student and teacher modes in the distance learning environment. Throughout the course, they will be asked to reflect on their practice, and how they might apply the techniques they have learned in the course; as well as how to modify activities, improve current unit activities, and “modelize” their own activities for use in their classes.
